About the work

Fairytales tip higgledy-piggledy! Two children whisked away to fairyland, choose new pages, rewrite tales and find happily-ever-afters.

Fairy tales are fractured! Classic stories have tipped higgledy-piggledy and favourite characters are all in a muddle. Two children whisked away to fairyland, find a bold Little Red, grumpy gran, music loving pigs, a lonely giant, and love-struck prince and princess. They must piece the fairy tales back together before midnight.

Along the way, our heroes learn who to trust, when to help, kindness and to look beyond first impressions. Every choice turns a new page – can they rewrite the tales and find happily-ever-afters?

About the company

RAVA Productions is a collaboration between arts industry professionals Ruth Atkinson and Alison Vallette who join forces in 2018 to produce live theatre ready for audiences in regional and remote Queensland.

RAVA has toured to over 65 communities in Queensland with three tours of Charlotte's Web and two of The Wind in the Willows. Their cast has facilitated more than 125 children's drama workshops as part of their six regional tours.

RAVA Productions prioritises regional and remote touring to benefit children and their families, generating first experiences of theatre for young people. RAVA identifies professional artists with connection to the Darling Downs, building performance and touring opportunities to extend their experience and connecting them to arts industry career pathways.

Technical Considerations

The production set expands/contracts enabling flexibility in small to large venues.

Bump in is 4-5 hours with venue techs across any pre-rig.

SET

Simply constructed flat panels on wheels with an incorporated screen.

LIGHTING

A and B level available.
Standard rig with additional specials and toured LED battery/DMX controlled floor lighting fixtures.

Audio/AV playback is via Qlab programmed on toured Mac computer. Projectors and AV distribution gear is toured. One foldback speaker send to side stage.
Four performer radio mics (lapel/headset style) are toured.

Fractured Fairy Tales cannot play outdoors due to the audio-visual set components.

Marketing & Engagement

Unique Selling Point

Fractured Fairy Tales engages primary school aged children and families in theatre experiences capturing imaginations through storytelling. It carries themes of kindness, learning who to trust, who to help and that first impressions don't aways count.

Teachers connect Prep to Year 4 curriculum with activities from the Teacher Resource Kit. Cast led Workshops are available for school groups to extend their theatrical experience.

Marketing Materials

The marketing materials include:

Production images, hero graphic, e-mailable and printable digital posters, social media templates and banners, biographies of performers and creatives and sample media releases.

Video content is available after May 2025 premiere seasons. This can be edited for broadcast quality television, and made into shorts suitable for YouTube and Social Media distribution. Radio is possible to create using audio (songs or spoken work) and voice over.

Performers are available for interviews and are excellent talent on screen, radio or for print media.

Engagement

RAVA Productions has delivered over 125 workshops during past tours in regional Queensland. Workshops are designed for Primary school aged children although versions are available for Secondary school drama students, adult groups (eg: amateur actor community groups) and a Teacher Professional Development version that is certified to meet Professional Standards 2 for Queensland Teachers (know the content and how to teach it).

Workshop activities are play based, aiming to spark imagination in storytelling and creating characters, while encouraging small group teamwork and individuals creative thinking.

Workshops are usually 1 hour in duration for group of up to 30 students plus supervisors, in a suitable space (eg: school classroom, school hall, rehearsal space or empty supper room area. The cast facilitators bring all they need.

The cast members are experienced facilitators and performance teachers who present workshops and activities that engage the community arts participants and audiences of children.

Q&A sessions: Post show at curtain call, the cast invite audience questions fielding about 4-5 depending on the children. Cast members introduce themselves and respond with quality learning answers to enhance the production understanding for children.
