Centrally located in the Toowoomba CBD, The Empire precinct has 4 performance venues including the 1500 seat historic Empire Theatre and 300 seat black box Armitage Centre and multiple flexible function spaces. Wholley owned by the Toowoomba Regional Council, the venue is run by Empire Theatres Pty Ltd and supported by The Friends of the Empire who volunteer their time ushering and in other support roles. Community engagement is a large focus including an in house produced community musical, Empire Youth Arts and workshop and development programming across many genres facilitated each year.
Carnival of Flowers occurs in September. This is a time of large activity but can be hard to get marketing cut through unless directly aligned with the Carnival programming. The Carnival of Flowers is not a dedicated arts event and is not controlled by The Empire however Thrive on Arts is The Empire's event and is a children's festival in the September school holidays.
Eisteddfods occur in May and July each year for 10 days each.
